COVENANT
Although most Precept studies are based on an individual book of the Bible, there are some topical studies, and the subject of covenant is one of those. The concept of covenant is basic to our understanding of the Scriptures. In Old Testament times, this complex concept was the foundation of social order and social relationships, and it was particularly the foundation for an understanding of humanity's relationship with God. Biblical covenants, whether in the Old Testament or in the New Testament, and whether between God and man, or between man and man, were and are very serious matters. God is a covenant-keeping God, and He expects us to keep our covenants as well, whether they are with other men or with God Himself.
A study of covenants will lead to a deeper understanding of the Bible because the concept saturates the entirety of Scripture. Kay Arthur states that "the crimson thread of covenant is woven throughout the fabric of God's truths from Genesis to Revelation." Everything God does is based on covenant. Thus, the concept of covenant is utterly basic to our understanding of the Bible.
